Gary Hunt has built a stellar career in architecture from the ground up. Indeed, his distinctive style can be traced back to his involvement in the rebuilding of Darwin after Cyclone Tracy in 1974. Taking inspiration from the design pioneers, Gary has always understood the importance of adapting a building’s fabric and form to create spaces of comfort in the tropical Queensland climate.

His business, The Hunt Design Group, has been based in tropical North Queensland’s Port Douglas for over two decades. Gary’s influence on the area’s architecture extends from the rebirth of the town’s historic Court House Hotel, through the Silky Oaks resort nestled in the pristine Daintree rainforest, to the Treetop Resort on the edge of Four Mile Beach.

An experienced skipper and chopper pilot, Gary’s unrivalled knowledge of North Queensland’s coastline makes him the first and only choice to bring Meridien’s Port of Airlie vision to life.
